A friend recently told me not to use a bumper because they can present danger to a baby. I had no idea!! When I reviewed them on the internet I found the general advice is not to use them. I am looking at breathable bumpers (or nothing) instead at this point. Your picture gives me even more incentive to take my pretty bumper off!!
Yeah, they do say that, and my pediatrician even said that, but I talked to all my friends, and every single one of them used/uses a bumper and said if they didn't, their kids would have banged the heck out of their heads! So we decided to keep it, and I'm glad I did- it has never been a problem, and she would definitely bang her head without it! I'm not sure what happened today, although there was a lot of screaming going on! ;)
If you do want a breathable one, they sell them at Babies R Us (which you probably know).
(BTW, I am in the pro-bumper camp, too. My kiddo LOOOOOVES to sleep all nestled up against it. He'd be SO sad if I took it out. In fact, I made a bumper for our PnP for when we travel. :) I really think they're only dangerous before the kids are mobile and can wiggle themselves away if it becomes a breathing obstruction.)
Exactly...and when Ella wasn't mobile, we had the wedge in her crib so she couldn't move close to anyway! Once she could roll, we knew she could roll away from it as well, however, I noticed that even when she was snuggled up against it (which she was a lot), there was still always at least enough room between her nose and the bumper so that she could breathe. Silly kids!
Did you leave it untied by accident? Or did little genius Ella figure out how to untie it by herself? No wonder she's pooped after wrestling the big bad bumper all by herself! =)
We can never get to that corner so it's always just a loose sort of tie that she could easily pull, but she just started trying to pull the bumper down! We may have to redecorate the room the crib is in a location where I can get to all 4 corners! ;)
That is hilarious! Ella is crafty! We just took our bumper of Brett's crib a month ago because he would have totally bumped his head if we would have taken it out sooner.
I'm a 39 year old attorney, wife and mom to a sweet girl and crazy boy, who keep me entertained every minute! I love to craft, sew and cook and often wonder how I ended up in law!
