I was hesitant to try these because the recipe sounds WAY too healthy for a good donut. No sugar and only a tablespoon of oil...there is no way a donut like that can taste good! Nevertheless, Gary loves donuts, and I'm pretty fond of them myself so I figured I'd try this recipe and went out and purchased THIS inexpensive donut pan.
I didn't have any real maple syrup on hand so I used Gary's light fake syrup, and I only had lowfat vanilla bean yogurt, not nonfat. They still turned out so yummy! Especially for having little oil and sugar and not being fried! They are also super quick and easy to make, which is great when you suddenly decide that you need donuts NOW on a Saturday morning.
We bought some real maple syrup this morning at Trader Joes so tomorrow I'm going to try making them with the real syrup and with either rice flower or Pamela's gluten free mix since Gary requested a gluten free version (not that the first batch being made with regular gluten-full flour prevented him from eating 4 of them at once!).
